10th Year

So, it is my birthday month again. And my 10th one at that! As is my custom, here is my annual Masks of Turbo picture for your education and amusement:

In Memory of Le Hedstrom

Please bear with me. My Human asked me if she could make this post.

A bit more than 20 years ago I went to my first dog show. Back then I didn't have a dog of my own, but really wanted one. I'd enjoyed watching the Westminster Kennel Club dog show on TV for years, but I never went to see one until that March in Columbia, MO. The dog that caught my eye was this Afghan Hound:

His name was Ch. Casbar Turbo-Charge. His call name was Turbo. I had never seen a dog as splendid as he was. The next weekend, there was a dog show in Kansas City, MO and I decided to go watch that dog show; in part because I wanted to see this dog again. I worked up my nerve to go meet the people behind this dog. At first I thought that the man didn't understand a lick of English because as I was complimenting him on his dog, he was motioning for his wife, Carol, to talk to me. I thought that he needed her to translate for him. Actually, if Le Hedstrom had known I thought that, he would have played it up because he was quite the joker.

Over the years, I became kind of a groupie of the Hedstroms and their dogs. I went to see them almost every year at the Columbia dog show, but I also would sometimes go to Kansas City, and St. Louis. I would get to hold their brushes and conditioning spray. And I also became friends with Le & Carol. I've never met people who were nicer and friendlier than the Hedstroms. They have influenced me in ways that I'm only now realizing.

I would have gotten a dog of my own even if I hadn't gotten to know the Hedstroms, but I don't know if I would have gotten my first Siberian Husky (Misha Meepenstein) had I not seen them at all the dogs shows I went to. I can say with absolute certainty that I would not have gotten my Turbo had I not become friends with the Hedstroms because I wouldn't have been at the dog show in March 2003 where I saw my Tubey's sire, Jessie, and met his person. Jeanne told me that she had bred Jessie and had some pups that were available. I decided to get one and to name him after Le & Carol's Turbo.

If I hadn't gotten my Turbo, then there wouldn't be this blog, and maybe none of my other blogs. And I wouldn't have gotten to know any other dog bloggers and their people over the past 10 years.

Sadly, Le Hedstrom passed away this past Wednesday. As I've read the many tributes his friends have posted to Carol on Facebook and on Legacy, I am struck by the great amount of love he and Carol have shown to people and they back to him and Carol. I think the best tribute any of us can give to Le and also to Carol is to be a great friend to others as they have been to us.

Sort Of The Penultimate Week Of This Year's HFL Season

Ha roo, everywoo!

I'll have this week's update after I step out of the internet.

 

So, we're pretty much at the end of this year's Husky Football League season. There were only 3 games. The Michigan Techs, St. Cloud States, East Los Angeleses, U of Saskatchewans,  & St Mary's have all decided to quit playing this year and do something else.

The Connecticuts felt like taking the week off, so they didn't play.

Northeasterns decided to have an entire season again this year without playing football games.

So that leaves the Northern Illinoises, Bloomsburg Turbo-Colored Huskies, & the Washingtons to be the only packs of Huskies that played. The Northern Illinoises & Washingtons scored more points than some rockets and buffalos. I'm horribly distraught to have to tell you that the Turbo-Colored Huskies of Bloomsburg lost interest in their game and scored only 20 points to the raiders 58. However all playing huskies did still score more points than their opponents: 89 Husky points to 85 non-Husky points.

The Great Thing About Being A Husky...

...is you don't have to do something it you don't feel like it. Last week I didn't feel like updating the Husky Football League report, so I didn't.

But it's a new week and I feel like doing it now.

You will notice that a lot more huskies won than didn't. This week's score is Huskies 319 points/Non-Huskies 142. Huskies scored more points than minutemen, golden rams, tartars, colts, beavers, golden bears, and mounties. Sadly, they did not score more points than plain rams or bulls. A special mention goes to the Northern Illioises because they scored 63 points against the minutemen's 0 points!

The East Los Angeles Huskies are the most husky-like of the HFL teams. They are always really slow to report their scores because they know how much humans want to see them. Good going, ELAC Huskies. Here's their statue, which I think is fantastic!

Another Weekend Of HFL Action

This was not a good weekend for the Husky Football League teams. So, I'm hoping to soften the blow by showing you this action shot of 2 professional Canadian Football League teams playing in their native habitat. The only thing that would make this better is if the mascots were both huskies. But sadly, that was not to be.

The good news from this weekend's HFL games is that the Turbo-Colored Huskies of Bloomsburg still remain undefeated. This week they scored more points than some wolves. (Sorry wolves!)

2 other packs of Huskies won. The Northern Illinoises and the US Huskies scored more points than zips & gold-colored bears respectively.

The other packs of Huskies all scored less points than their opponents. (Bulldogs, wolves, wolverines, wildcats, axemen, & the color orange.)

To summarize, this week Huskies scored 241 points, while non-huskies scored 272 points.

Week 7 of the HFL Season

Haroo everywoo! It's getting closer and closer to snow time. Right now leaves are leaping off of trees in excitement over the cooler temperatures.

Here's this week's Husky Football League results. This week Huskies scored 284 points and non-Huskies scored 214 points.

I continue to be thrilled that the Bloomsburg Turbo-Colored Huskies continue to have not scored less points than the other teams. This week they scored more points than warriors. Huskies also scored more points than timberwolves (sorry wolves!), bulls, mauraders, and rams.

I was disappointed to see that 2 packs of Huskies did not score more points than trojans and mounties and owls.

Look! It's a big, inflatable blue Husky! Some high school Huskies at a school called Capt John Chapin High School get to run through it!

Another Week of HFL Games!

Here we are with another week to report in the Husky Football League season. This week's final score is Huskies 216 and non-huskies 156.
 

I'm happy to announce that Huskies defeated marauders, wildcats, cardinals (the bird, not the color), golden eagles (both color and bird), and mounties.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But victories did not happen against ducks and scarlet knights. (It's confusing, but the scarlet knights wore black.)

As in previous weeks, the Northeastern Huskies are being contrary and are refusing to have a team.

2 packs of Huskies stayed home & dug holes or something: The East Los Angeleses & the U of Saskatchewans. The Saskatchewans are very inclusive as they are known as "us huskies."

Please note that the Turbo-Colored Huskies of Bloomsburg and the Michigan Techs both are without non-wins! Good going, Huskies!

Husky Football League: Week 4

First of all, I apologize for having to enable comment moderation on my blog. But stupid spammers were posting stupid spam on my blog. I'll approve any non-spam comment, but I'm not going to let stupid humans try to trick people into visiting their site from mine.

I've decided that I need to post updates again this year from the Husky Football League. You'll be pleased to learn that Huskies scored 303 points this week while their non-Husky opponents scored only 260 points.

This week the Huskies were victorious over golden knights, lakers, chippewas, cardinal (color, not bird, or religious person), bulldogs (sorry bulldogs!), and x-men. I'm not sure what the x-men are now. They also have x-women. Maybe they are trying to become dogs.

Sadly Huskies did not score more points than jaguars and dinos.

You'll note that the Turbo Colored Huskies of Bloomsburg have more wins than any other group of Huskies!

Unfortunately, one of the teams that did not score more points than their opponents was the U of Saskatchewan. To make their big air-filled husky feel better, Here's a picture of him:

Meep Is In Another Room

Dr. Misha Meepenstein. 1999 - May 17, 2012

When I came home for the first time as a extremely cute puppy in 2003, I met the Meep for the first time. He let me know that he was the boss of the pack. I thought to myself "for now." A couple months later, I ran around the room getting in each dog's face, yelling at each dog. Meep was the last one I got to. As soon as I yelled at him, he knocked me over. I quickly scooted to the other side of the room and looked in that mad dog's direction. I stomped my foot at him and yelled, "Oh yeah?!"

Another couple of months later I was losing my puppy teeth. I had one tooth that stubbornly refused to come out. It was wiggly, but wanted to stay in there. My Human was concerned but decided to wait for nature to run its course. Nature came in the form of Dr. Meepenstein who pinned me down and worked on the tooth until it fell out.

I didn't always get along with Meepie because he was the boss and I wanted to be the boss. But over the past few months I knew that he wasn't as strong as he had been. So I (more or less) was gentler with him. And I even sometimes snuggled near him.

Meepie often would go off to be by himself in another room. In fact I heard a story that before I moved in my pack was living in a room with a basement. Meeps went downstairs to be by himself. My Human noticed the door was shut, so she opened it. The Meep ran upstairs quickly to reshut the door for the privacy he wanted. So, I prefer to think of Meeps as being in another room and eventually all of us will barge in and find him there.

So anywoo, last weekend was my 9th birthday. I would have posted a blog entry then, but the internet was being stupid and it wasn't possible. Tradition decrees that I post my annual mask picture. So, without further delay... And because I'm a Sibe, I didn't cooperate fully with every attempt at a picture:

3 New Teams Added!

I am pleased to report that I have added 3 new teams to the Husky Football League: The St. Cloud State, the St. Mary's, and the East Los Angeles. They are each good teams, with a combined season record of 24 wins & 9 non-wins. Go Huskies!!!!

This week, only 2 teams had games. The Northern Illinoises beat some robertcats. Sadly, the Connecticuts lost to some stupid bearcats. (Are they bears? Are they cats? I don't know. BTW, my Human often calls me "pigbear." I think that's a better nickname than "bearcat.")

3 Games & 3 Wins

I got overly excited and posted this before I wrote any words. This season is dwindling down and just 3 teams had games this week. But each team won, so that made me happy. The Northern Illinoises beat some eagles. The Washingtons beat some cougars. And the Connecticuts beat some scarlet knights. I do need to make a correction. At some point during the season, I goofed up and miss counted the number of wins that the Washingtons had. I missed 1 victory in my standings board. I regret this error.

Nutrition Revised

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all people who celebrate Thanksgiving Day. And for those who don't, Happy Day! Either way, celebrate today by eating something special.

A long time ago, I posted my food pyramid with my suggestions of the size of servings everyone should eat:

The U.S. government revised their pyramid to be shaped like a plate. So, I decided that I needed to update mine to be a plate also: You will notice that I'm now advising that everyone should eat an equal portion of bacon and froot. I've updated it that we should eat slightly less cheese. But we now should all eat a good amount of burritos. Under the Miscellaneous category, I've included whip, Nilla wafers, banana chips, Cheez-Its, salsa, & peanuts. (Marigold the Goat Philosopher recommended peanuts.)

2 Weeks in 1

Thanks everyone for your kind words about my friend Fargo. I (and everyone else in our pack) appreciate it. We all miss him, but we are doing okay.

I didn't update the Husky Football League last weekend, so I'm doing that first before talking about this week. The Turbo-Colored Huskies of Bloomsburg are back on track and defeated some eagles without hair. The Northern Illinoises beat another type of bird - falcons. The Michigan Techs beat some wildcats. Unfortunately, the Washingtons did not score more points than some citizens of Troy. (The Connecticuts did not play, and the Saskatchewans have played their final game.) And I was disappointed that the Bloomsburg Turbo-Colored Huskies are not in the playoffs. Therefore, their season has come to an end.

Okay. I will update this week's standings after this important message: I was thinking about the football helmets of the teams of the Husky Football League. Here's what they look like: I don't understand why the Washingtons and the Connecticuts don't have a graphic of a husky on their helmets.

Now back to the sports report. This week only 3 teams had games, and only 33% of the teams won. The Northern Illinoises beat some stupid cardinals. The Washingtons did not score more points than some beavers. And the Connecticuts did not beat some stupid (different) cardinals.
