Husky Logo #24

.

Today I'm waving my paw towards Kiska, the mascot of Dieruff High School in Allentown, PA.

According to their website:

Dieruff's mascot, the Husky, was named Kiska in 1959 in order to honor the dog and ten men of the American Naval Weather Detachment who were captured by the Japanese on Kiska Island in 1942. Today, Kiska IV is eight years old and reside with retired instructors from DHS. At the May 2005 Kiska Dance, student raised money in order to care for a feed Kiska this year. The dog makes appearances at every important high school event or activity, and is much loved by Dieruff students, past and present.

And, the huskies of Adopt-A-Husky have stopped by this school to give their support! The students of this school give a lot of help to Adopt A Husky.

(Some of the students at my Human's alma mater helped save some stupid tigers. They should have been helping the huskies, too!)

Bye-Bye, Mr. Lay

As you may recall, Kenneth Lay gave my Human's alma mater a lot of money to endow a chair (in his name) in economics. The University has had trouble getting someone to sit in the chair.

Mr. Lay is now among the former pie eaters of the world. I thought I'd post his obituary that was in the local newspaper. It's over the top.

Meepie Wants You to Know...

Former Enron Corp. chief Kenneth Lay went to the same university that my Human went to, but it was a really long time ago. That's really about all that they have in common. My Human has never been really rich, but she's also never been convicted of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, either.

In 1999 Mr. Lay gave Mizzou $1.1 million dollars to endow a chair in economics in his name. The University never got anyone to sit in that really expensive chair, so the money remains unused. Now Mr. Lay would like the money back, but the University says that the gift is irrevocable. Also, the money can't be used for any other purpose. So a bunch of stupid humans from the University and Mr. Lay's representatives are trying to figure out what to do with the money. Mizzou insists that they are still trying to find someone to take the Kenneth Lay Chair in Economics.
