The Big Woo Conference

Apparently, a lot of human, including my Human, are all worked up about the Big XII Conference disintegrating. Or something. My Human spent her late teen and early 20's locked up in an institution of high learning in Missouri called Mizzou. (Please note that the humans pronounce the word XII as 12.)

I don't know what’s going on anymore than any humans do. But from what I understand, some universities got mad at some other universities. They took all their toys home and tried to find new groups of playmates.

Whatever.

Anywoo, my Human's old school doesn't have anyone to play with.

So, I decided to form my own Conference. I'm calling it the Big Woo Conference. I am offering membership only to universities with dogs for mascots. I hope to get the Washington Huskies, Connecticut Huskies, Bloomsburg Turbo-Colored Huskies, Northeastern Huskies, Southern Illinois University Salukis, Georgia Bulldogs, etc.

I will be nice and let the Mizzou Tigers, Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State Wildcats, Iowa State Cyclones, and any other team from the soon-to-be-former Big XII Conference join the Big Woo Conference. But only if they change their mascots to a dog breed. My new Conference has standards, you know.

Huskies Win!

It's a good week for huskies. First, Dubs the U of Washington mascot is takes 1st place in the 2010 NCAA competition. And then the woman basketball huskies of Connecticut win 1st place in the 2010 NCAA woman basketball competition! I think these are signs of my victory for US Congress in the Fall. Woooo!

I was researching husky mascots and logos today and I found an interesting article about the fact that the University of Washington Husky is really a Malamute. Here's a quote:

Malamutes make better mascots than Huskies since they are not as high strung and easier to control in large crowds.

This is my promise to you, when I am President, mascots will correspond to the appropriate animals. In other words, there will be Washington Malamutes.

Seriously, why not? If the Washington humans feel that Malamutes are superior to Huskies as live representatives of their mascot, why not just call themselves the Washington Malamutes?

By the way, for those of you who care about my stupid Human, she's not making hummus this weekend. She said that she's not sure which recipe she wants to use. Sometimes it takes her forever to make decisions!

Another thing that I found while playing around on the internet was this site with info on a Sibe named Ned who was used in in a University of Washington video.

Make sure that you watch the video. Roo Roo says that Ned was really cute, but that she could think of other things to do in the library.

Fabric

Dave, my friend in Kansas who has authored many wonderful haik-woos, is also a guide dog for the color blind. He helps his mom select fabric for quilts.

He sent me a couple links to some fabric that celebrates the mascots of the University of Washington and University of Connecticut. I think they would make a wonderful quilt.

Because I didn't have my regular post last week, I decided to post 2 husky logos today. They're linked by theme, anyway.

Husky Logo #16

I don't remember talking about the University of Washington Husky logo yet. I found a website that has a competition to choose the favored husky logo.

The University started out with the mascot of the Sun Dodgers. They called their mascot "Sunny Boy!" But in 1923 they realized that they were really stupid to have that and they wised up and got the Husky.


I think that the logo below was the winner. And I think I like it best.


I like the next logo the least (It's just a stupid "W"):


I think this logo from 1937 looks like what the child would look like if a Sibe and a cat had a baby!


(Ssshhh!!! I still think the Northeastern University Husky is the best mascot!)
